Allyson Mcdermott wallpaper

Showcasing the people behind the hospitality

Allyson Mcdermott is an extraordinary wallpaper designer and maker, mixing modern and traditional techniques. With a background in restoration, she analyses historic wall coverings, identifies how they made the inks and the papers and can recreate them.

She was asked by the Sloane Club to create a bespoke wallpaper for their ‘Helena’s room’. Princess Helena was a founder of the club but was also a founding member of the Royal School of Needlework – something that brought a lot of therapy to shellshocked soldiers after the first world war; and so Allyson sets of on a task to honour this in the wallpaper design.
